In reality, there is a lot of medicine and laboratory work that has to happen before you ever reach that stage.
Your fertility picture needs to be assessed. A stimulation protocol is created. Eggs are retrieved and fertilised. Embryos need to develop successfully to the blastocyst stage before they can be biopsied and tested. Suitable embryos of your preferred sex then need to be identified before your uterus is prepared and an embryo is thawed and transferred.
If you’re considering IVF for baby boy, for example, being able to identify an XY embryo is only one part of the process. First, you need to create an embryo suitable for testing and, ultimately, transfer.
