Taking The First Step With IVF Gender Selection

IVF gender selection

Is 2020 the year to have your much longed for baby boy or girl but you still haven’t taken the first step?

If you are considering gender selection know that you are not alone. Gender Selection Australia on average fields thousands of enquiries from Australian and New Zealand families each year who are considering choosing the gender of their baby. Hundreds of consultations are undertaken to help families understand the process and get a level of comfort with the treatment and we are delighted to send close to 200 families each year to see Dr Potter.

The first step is often the hardest. It can seem overwhelming. Even after hours of research online, Facebook forums and advice from friends and family, taking that first step can seem like a huge mountain to climb. To help you understand the timeline we have outlined the steps that you need to take and you will see that with the help of Gender Selection Australia it is not as daunting as you think.

Gather your information

The first step is to gather your information so you have a baseline. Gender Selection Australia has an easy to read information pack. We know that for the majority of our families they have had children naturally, so IVF is a foreign concept. The information is in a simple form so it is clear and easy to read.

Speak to the Experts

Once you have your baseline of information you will know the basics but of course speaking to someone who understands the process and can answer your questions makes it much easier. You can arrange a phone consultation with GSA. The call is free, with no obligation and very simply a way for you to ask those questions you’ve been too scared to ask on online forums or of friends. You will finish the call understanding exactly what’s involved, the timeline, statistics – everything you need to make an informed decision.

Tonia Lincoln who saw Dr Potter in 2016 explains these initial steps.

‘I first stumbled across Gender Selection Australia on the internet when my husband had asked me to research the topic more.  I cannot tell you how nervous I was when I made that first phone call. We chatted for 45 minutes and Vivienne was able to calm any fears I had and answered all of my questions. This was the hardest part of my journey, but I did it and now I have our beautiful girl who is now three!’

Becoming a Patient

Gender Selection Australia assist you in becoming a patient of Dr Potter. This allows him to provide you with pre-testing orders. Pre-testing is similar to a fertility check and provides Dr Potter with valuable information about yours and your partners fertility so he can firstly provide an indication of your chances of success and secondly, provide valuable information about the medication strategy. You can arm yourself with important information about your chances of success before committing to the process financially or otherwise.

Preparing for treatment

Dr Potter’s nurse will provide you with your schedule 6 weeks before your egg retrieval date. This will provide clear instructions as you head into the final stages of treatment. Your medication will generally start 20 days before your egg retrieval date. Many families wonder how they will coordinate flights and accommodation based on cycles. You don’t need to worry about this with Dr Potter. He will override your cycle so you know well in advance what date you are seeing him so you can plan accordingly.

The exciting part – getting pregnant

Once in LA, you will meet Dr Potter and his team on day 1 for an ultrasound. This is to check that your eggs are ready. On day 3 of your trip, you will undergo your egg retrieval and on day 9 you will have your transfer of your precious embryo.

Throughout the whole process you will have the support of Gender Selection Australia, Dr Potter’s team and a team of doctors, technicians and pharmacists in Australia to support you on your journey. Taking the first step is the hardest but once you do, you will know you are on your journey for your baby boy or girl.
